about

Each sale of Cat in the Moon benefits a no-kill animal shelter in the Hudson Valley.

In case you were wondering, the cat in the photo is my cat Martha. The picture was taken when she was a tiny kitten and fell face first into her bowl of food. She's fine.

lyrics

I was out in the yard on a warm summer night
I mighta had just one or two
I was stargazing off in the distance when
all of a sudden a voice said "hey you".

I spun all around, not a soul to be found
Then I heard it again say "up here"
and way up in the sky sat a round furry guy
with whiskers and big pointy ears

He was orange and white and he lit up the night
as he whistled a Calloway tune
When I asked who he was he just opened his paws
and said "man, I'm the cat in the moon"

As he lay there and purred I said "I've never heard of a feline
at your altitude"
I was starting to think I had too much to drink when he said
"Now just listen up, dude"

"I got something to say but I don't have all day"
"You mean night," I said. He said "Shut up."
"Don't you gimme no crap, almost time for my nap"
Then he coughed and a hairball came up.

He said "Hey, little brat, better learn from us cats
There's a way you're supposed to behave.
I got wisdom you need and you better take heed
Or you'll wind up in your early grave."

"Eat a few meals a day, leave some time just to play
Don't get stressed if some little thing breaks.
Try to sleep when you can, have a good backup plan
And don't ever be scared of mistakes.
Every now and again just blow everything off
And go stretch yourself out in the sun.
'Cause when you waste your time caring what everyone thinks
You can't get your own living done".

Then he sat up and yawned, just like that he was gone
And I couldn't see where or how.
But as I searched the sky on a breeze that blew by
I was sure I heard someone meow.

It's just one of life's mysteries handed on down
from a creature who's always about.
Take some solid advice from this chaser of mice
when the real world is knocking you out.

So I'm sharing this message from over my head
and that's all there is about that.
You can call him the man in the moon if you like
But I'm pretty sure he's a cat.
